The Art of Transformation

What I love about practicing Feng Shui, home design and nurturing our physical environments is that it can meet all of these things at once:

1. Unleash your creativity

2. Bring to life a childhood dream

3. Serve a practical function

4. Bring energy that magnetizes you as a creator of your life

5. Look beautiful, make you smile and bring joy

When we moved into the home (that we have been fixing up), it came with a built-in desk that was neither attractive nor was it a valuable use of space for us. As I have a full office in another location, the random desk was not serving a function.

From a look standpoint, it was a bit dated and not special.

When I was a child, I loved to build forts of all types. Outside in the sagebrush or a tree, in a box the neighbor’s had from moving, out of my bunk bed or in a closet nothing seemed to far fetched to serve as my lodging.

In fact, I tried to get out of sharing a room with my sister by begging to make the closet my bedroom- did not work.

I think the idea of cozy spaces made me love all the ways folks created reading nooks, and I have wanted one- or something similar- for a long time.

Like I mentioned, we did not need a desk, but we did need more book storage. I am a huge reader and I collect books. My non-fiction books found their way to my office and take up a full shelf/wall. However, we did not have a place to put the nonfiction books.

So bringing my love of books together with my longterm desire for cozy and adding a bit of practical- the booknook was born. What would have been a dead space was slowly transformed. It took quite a lot of planning and effort to source and size shelving, prep, paint, style, design and fit my books. Green shelves are bold and do not paint themselves.

However, the result has been amazing. While not yet fully complete, there is some art for the wall and storage for under the desk that I am sourcing, I share here as we know homes like dreams may continue to transform.

Rather than a dead space I now feel a burst of energy, beauty, joy, comfort and creativity every time I think of, use or pass by this space. My energy, my dreams and aspirations are alive and well. I hope yours are too!
